How to Rectify QuickBooks Error Code 6129?

QuickBooks Error Code 6129 typically indicates that QuickBooks is unable to access the company files due to a database connection verification failure. Here are some steps you can follow to rectify this error:

Step 1: Ensure All Computers Are on the Same Network

Make sure all computers using QuickBooks are connected to the same network.

Step 2: Update QuickBooks Desktop

Ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop software is up to date.

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Help menu and choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Click on the Update Now tab.
  4. Select Get Updates.
  5. Once the update is complete, restart QuickBooks.

Step 3: Rename .ND and .TLG Files

These files are configuration files that allow QuickBooks to access the company file in a network or multi-user environment.

  1. Open the folder that contains your QuickBooks company file.
  2. Find the files with the same name as your company file but with .ND and .TLG extensions (e.g., company_file.qbw.nd and company_file.qbw.tlg).
  3. Right-click each file and select Rename. Add .old at the end of each file name (e.g., company_file.qbw.nd.old).

Step 4: Use QuickBooks Database Server Manager

If you are using QuickBooks in a multi-user environment, make sure the QuickBooks Database Server Manager is installed and running.

  1. Open the QuickBooks Database Server Manager on your server computer.
  2. Click on Start Scan.
  3. Browse to the location of your company file and click OK.
  4. Once the scan is complete, close the Database Server Manager and restart QuickBooks on your workstation.

Step 5: Create a New Windows User

If there are permissions issues with the Windows user account, creating a new user might help.

  1. Go to the Control Panel and select User Accounts.
  2. Choose Manage another account and then Add a new user in PC settings.
  3. Follow the instructions to create a new user with administrator privileges.
  4. Log in to Windows with the new user account and try opening QuickBooks.

Step 6: Verify Folder Permissions

Make sure that the folder containing the QuickBooks company file has the correct permissions.

  1. Right-click the folder containing the QuickBooks company file.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click on the Security tab and ensure that all users have full control.

Step 7: Turn Off Antivirus and Firewall Temporarily

Sometimes, antivirus and firewall settings can block QuickBooks.

  1. Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall settings.
  2. Try opening QuickBooks and the company file again.
  3. If the error is resolved, configure your antivirus and firewall to allow QuickBooks-related processes.

Step 8: Use QuickBooks File Doctor
